using wikis for genealogy
I would like to share my experience with using a wiki for genealogy. Together with a few distant relatives I started a wiki on our family.
On the front page we post our latest finds and research questions. There is a picture of the family tree on the front page too, for orientation purposes.
In the sidebar, that is subdivided to show the diferent generations, we link to the pages that are dedicated to individual persons. On these pages we show the dates of birth etc, but we also try to fill in more about each person's life in the context of the local and sometimes national history. So we have several links, photo's and stories from oral history. And of course every person mentioned on these pages is linked to their own page.
This is a great way to share information and to build a project!
I am doing something similar with my family tree. I have folders organized for my ancestors, and I'm tagging each ancestor with the various family surnames. Are you creating a template for your ancestor pages, or just letting things go free-form?
