I'd like to use this wiki with my math class.  It doesn't seem like wikis are as friendly to math teachers as they are for other content areas.  Anyone have any good ideas for how to use wikis for math??  Specifically interactive type assignments?

I think math problems lend themselves to collaborative group work.  That would be one use of wikis for math.  My middle school math department does a math contest for area schools once a year.  They do some individual work first and then do team work.  It has become very popular.  The number of  schools and students attending doubled last year.
Also, there are a lot of math widgets out there on the Internet.  I am a librarian and so work with all areas, not just math, but have found math widgets for a project a couple of years ago. Earlier I put a geography widget on my homework page (but then deleted it)-however it did work.
Maybe someone who uses widgets could give us more information about using them on Wikis.

I don't have anything handy right now, but I know that I have seen some amazing math wikis.  I will look for them and post my results in the next day or two.

I have a few math wikis on the Examples page of the "Welcome to Wikis!" workspace that I use when I teach professional development classes about wikis. You can see that here: http://nhv-pd-wiki.pbworks.com/Examples

Bridget, I spent some time going through the wiki that was part of our Week 1 assignments.  I got a lot of ideas from that one about posting assignments, videos, downloadable work.  If you want to look through it the link is:  http://cappello.pbworks.com/

Hi Bridget; I haven't thought too much about interactive assignments in math yet, but I know for myself, one of my main correspondence topics with parents is about how to help their kids with their math homework.  I'm excited about using the wiki to provide additional explanations and/or examples, as well as links to helpful websites and interactive games that might make students actually want to practice math.  :-)

I absolutely love math 24/7.  He does a great job with his math wiki.  Basically he uses voicethread with the wiki to have students review how to do math problems.  This is a great review for the students and also helps parents understand what you are working on in class.  It also gives you great insight regarding the thinking process your students are using to solve problems.
You can contact him if you are interested in using the problems he has already designed.  I used a few of them and my students loved it!

Thanks for asking this question because I'm really enjoying the links people are sending in. I haven't used my math wikis very collaboratively so far, but this fall I am going to have students post topic summaries that they write collaboratively with a group of other students. I'm also going to have them do a group project on the wiki. So hopefully after next semester I'll have some wisdom to share. You can check out my wikis/projects at my camp homepage:http://camppbworks.pbworks.com/Angela+Vierling-Claassen+-+College

I used a wiki in math class as a way to post projects.  For example, student wrote stories about math in real life and gave examples.  Many chose a simple shopping story with percent discounts.  They enhanced their page with pictures of what they bought.  Very motivating.  They used microsoft paint to show the arithmetic and uploaded to page.  Some were very creative and uploaded videos solving a math problem.  Some took pictures at a parents job and gave explanations of the math used.

I also use the pages to upload jings of smartboard lessons that the students present.

Lastly, groups of students wrote a story about a linear equations, uploaded pictures of graphs, edited it paint, or recorded a lesson using smartboard recorder.

The wiki is just a great place to organize all the work and best of all they get to see and comment on each others work.

Thanks for the ideas and links! I've just set up my math wiki. I'm going to use it to create a class textbook. For each chapter a group of students will be responsible for explaining the content. I also have a math glossary that students can edit and add to. At least that's the

I plan on using a wiki in my math classes this fall: Peer Math
I'm looking for other teachers to possibly collaborate with.

Hi all

I am a teacher of mathematics (6-12th grades and GED) at the local (Northern Virginia) juvenile detention center.  Our wiki, http://spedteach2.pbworks.com, will be used to communicate with both students and teachers in the facility and district-wide.  It, understandably, is a work-in-progress but has been cheerfully accepted by all who have been invited to share/experience the Web 2.0 tool.

I hope to be able to create a viable learning opportunity in the content areas of math, science, English, and history with this wiki.  I can only be successful with plenty of support.

Come check it out, and please comment often!
