I wanted to have a wiki that was a daily journal kind of writing for first grade. I tried at the beginning of the year last year, but my classroom management was such that it became too much of a headache. I wanted 3 kids a day to do their journal on-line and have their parents read and respond to it. Some did, as long as I was working on it. Any ideas as to how I could make it more teacher-friendly? Thanks!
Do you mean weekly?
OOps. That is one thing about posting things to the web. Once out there...... Yes I was trying to get feedback about weekly participation.
Sisty48,
Why 3 students? Is that the number of computers you have? If so, then the only thing that I can think of is to make it more parent guided. Try to have them buy into it. Have the students and parents write messages to each other. The students leave a message to the parents and their parents must respond back. It is important for the parents to help convince the students as to the importance of the assignment and writing to each other. They can send each other love notes, promise notes, dream wishes, to do lists, ???
I was unable to do daily anything. Our postings were Unit oriented.
If you have the page set up to send you email notifications then each morning you can check to see if the parents completed their homework. Hope that helps
I had my students add to a wiki after their "Flat Stanley" arrive home. It started out pretty good, but then flizzled out. Since I know more about Wikis, I think I will do a better job of using it.
Vrburton: I like your idea of having parents and students write back and forth to each other. For those who do not have computers at home, maybe I could pair them up to write to each other, or maybe I could just write them a message to respond to. Thanks for the input.
I made my students do a lot of work on their class wiki during their first Sem. Now were more focused on preparing for the final year exams , so I mostly use the wiki to collect and share assignments and readings.
