I'm trying to come up with some good ideas for my wiki. I'm an arts teacher, and I'm just getting on the wiki bandwagon. Any thoughts/ideas to get me started. I teach everything from 1st to 8th grade Music, Visual Arts, and Drama/Dance.

Hi there!

You can embed video or MP3s on your wiki.  Have students listen and edit the wiki with their comments.

If you have a private wiki students can film their own videos and post them directly to the wiki (bypassing uploading it to youtube and therefore keeping it private).  Here's how to upload a video directly to your wiki: http://pbwiki.com/content/supportcenter-uploadvideo

Also, you may just want to start by having your students create their own page and introduce themselves.  Ask them to write a few sentences about their favorite band and then leave a comment on a peers wiki page.

Students can create a wiki of artists - each student researches and posts info about an artist.
I also use my wiki as a resource, with local art supply stores, museums and galleries, etc.
Post their artwork and ask others to comment (nicely!).

I am a middle school theatre teacher and I am also seeking ideas to use with my class. I have given the class a page on my wiki and I have given the club a page. I know I can use it to announce shows, post contracts, code of ethics, and schedule of practices, but I am not sure how I can involve the students. Help!!!!
Thanks!

Check out this link http://webquestsformusic.pbworks.com/ for information on creating a WebQuest for use in your music class.  The kids enjoy them and they encourage higher order thinking skills and creativity.

I am a middle school art teacher, and I just learned about wikis too!  Some thoughts I have on using them in the art room are:

  • a page or folder for each project or unit
  • on project page, design it as your intro to the lesson, embed links to voicethread, video, or glogster poster for visuals, incorporate images or ppt presentations, include worksheets, rubrics, checklists, etc.
  • each student has own page - create a voki avatar/self-portrait, collect images of own work, collect images for inspiration
  • document student work - develop online group critique, invite parent comments
  • page of links to community resources: local art galleries, museums, arts summer camp opportunities, art supply stores, high school art site
