Plan on doing a presentation for a class on SAS and other disruptive new technologies to small and medium business, and since I organize my notes on pbwiki already, stumbling upon your blog post and timing is perfect. :)

Kristine,
Thank you thank you!
I have a quick question regarding the 5 pbwiki upgrades to give out at our presentation. I went to your link and wondered if I have to fill it in for all 5 recipients or if they can each do it using their own name?
Also, since you have to specify the particular wiki, does that mean it's not associated with their account login, just the one wiki they upgrade or will it apply to other wiki pages they may create off of that original wiki???

Thanks,
Adrienne

Hi Adrienne,

To 'give out' your free upgrades, the person must first create a free PBwiki and then tell you the wiki name/URL.

Enter the name of the wiki you would like to upgrade on the snack attack page that was sent to you.

Free upgrades apply to a wiki, and not to the users account.  If someone has three wikis, they must choose which wiki they want to upgrade.

I have been using PBWiki for about two years now. It has created a fabulous 24/7 virtual classroom where students have questions answered (they post a comment on a chosen page and I reply several times each evening); where all their assignments, rubrics, and project descriptions are posted for them; where links are provided for help on their work; and where they can discuss and collaborate with each other

I also love presenting and always bring up PBWiki, no matter what I'm talking about. Teachers are so amazed at the variety of things that can be accomplished with your service

Today the elementary principal asked me to help her and her teachers learn how to create/use a PBWiki. Although I am a high school English teacher, I have been the only one to use PBWiki at the school up until now. This is exciting.

So since your poll above asking for how we use PBWiki only allows one choice, I thought I would post here to explain how many of us "old-timers" continue to find ways to use this wonderful tool and love to share about it with others!!

PS-I have a platinum because I also was lucky enough to Beta test last year!!!!! I would sure love to do that again, too!

So, here's an important question-  What does PB stand for?

PB = Peanut Butter...

"Wikis that are as easy to use as making a peanut butter sandwich".

When I make presentations or give workshops, I've been using PBworks instead of PowerPoint. That way, the participants have easy access to the presentation file, they can make comments on any page, plus I'm getting away from the dreaded PPT. And since I'm often making presentations about wikis, it seems more natural to situate the presentation inside a wiki instead of a PPT.

A colleague and I are giving a presentation in October; I'll talk with him about transferring our PowerPoint to a wiki. We used the PowerPoint for a presentation in May. It does appear counter productive to use a presentation to demonstrate another presentation which can 'speak for itself'.

I especially like the webinar today.  I was introduced to resources I didn't even know existed.  My problem is that I would like to use them all!  Also, I am creating a Moodle for the school and wonder how to incorporate it or complement my pbwiki.

Any ideas?

Sandyartim,

I have a project based learning moodle with lausd, so if you figure this out, please make sure and share it with me.

I thought about ways to incorporate wiki as well, but moodle is down for upgrades in my district, so I will have to play later I guess.

Please keep me posted.

Patricia,

How long did it take you before pbwiki became intuitive for you?

Thanks, Leila

As a technology teacher in my district this fall, I have learned so much from the presenters for PBWorks, especially Kristine.  You have given me a lot to consider, as well as a model.  Your directions are so clear.  Thank you!

Dear Melind
It was very interesting to know about your great experience with wiki sites. I have  similar situation with my wiki class. I also teach English (translations) using pbworks for about 1 year. And I am the only one using wiki with my students =:((
Could you share any of your sites with me? I posted a link to mine as a topic of the discussion forum (check my wiki rubric). Could be interesting to get your opinion.

Hi Leila,

Not long at all ... I started using PBworks in an online class that was heavily based in student collaborative work. We used PBworks (then called PBwiki) and I found it pretty intuitive to use (my students did too.) I researched and tested the other wiki software available and found PBworks the easiest of all of them to use. (I'm not a PBworks salesperson.) smile

Because a camper was having problems with QuickTime, she couldn't see my presentation Adding Visual Elements to Your Wiki so I created a PDF version of my presentation. I thought others might be interested in it as well.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

I also use wiki for workshop presentations...I notice that almost every single other workshop used power point & never an exciting attention grabbing & keeping one!!!
With the wiki, attendees can always reference in future and it is a "green" choice instead of all that paper...
